Chapel of St. John of Fraga

There are totally unknown the origins of this chapel. It's not known when or who order it built. The only that are known is that it was made in honor of St. John of Fraga and to reach this chapel over 1100 meters is necessary go through the one of the most emblematic routes of Pitões das Júnias, that is as beautiful as steep.

Every year on the first Sunday after the day of Saint John, most of the people of Pitões das Júnias fulfill the religious tradition, whose origin is also unknown, to climb to the top of the mountain in pilgrimage to the saint who protects the village.

It is traditional at the end of the route, with almost half an hour, the local people celebrate together with a picnic next to an oak forest and dancing to the sounds of concertinas.

Abrigos de Pitões

These "shelters" or mountain lodges where you can enjoy sweeping views between narrow valleys and fearful peaks of the National Park Peneda-Geres, remain in do Coto Street, in the village of Pitões das Júnias, a typical mountain village in the intermediate zone of Geres and Barroso to 1164m altitude.

The shelters have basic amenities of modern life, but are specially prepared for those who enjoy the simple life of the mountain and the nature.
